Who should wear Iolite?

Iolite quality depends on its origin, Color, Clarity & Cut. It is better to have clear understanding of quality before buying Iolite stone.

Origin - Iolite gemstone comes from Myanmar (Burma), India, Brazil, Madagascar and Sri Lanka. Amongst all these origin varieties, Indian Iolite and Madagascar Iolite are highly sought-after for its superior quality.

Color - Iolite has strong plecochroism, means it shows distinct colors in different angles. Iolite being trichoic appears Violet, yellow & colorless when seen from different angles. The color on Top is given most importance. Gemstones with consistent Blue - violet color on top are preferred to those with yellow & grey tints.

Clarity - Iolite can have visible inclusions like fingerprints, minerals, metallic platelets etc. Iolite with no or lesser visible inclusions are preferred to highly included stones. Iolite with brown – Red platelets is known as ‘Bloodshot Iolite’.

Cut - Iolite displays pleochroism, means it shows three distinct colors when seen from different angles, so cutting an iolite becomes more critical. Ideally, iolite is cut in such a manner that the gemstone looks consistently blue – violet on top without any yellow tints.
