Red Coral is one of the most commonly imitated and treated gemstones in the market. Being an organic gemstone, it is particularly vulnerable to dyeing, coating, and substitution with cheaper materials. Here is what every buyer must know:

• Very Common — Avoid: Dyeing & Colour Enhancement
  One of the most common treatments for Red Coral is dyeing — applying artificial colour to pale, pink, or white coral to make it appear as deep red. Dyed coral fades over time and has no astrological value. The colour is superficial and does not penetrate the stone.
